WIC

The Women in the Church met October 27th.  A speaker from CCHASM (Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry) presented the programs and needs of the organization.  CCHASM works with families and individuals in need.  They deal with those in need in almost any area - from food to bills.  The do a background screening of the applicants to be assured of the need.  Last year they had over 1300 applicants for Thanksgiving meals alone.  The WIC will make a contribution toward the purchase of some of the food needed for this Thanksgiving.

Following a devotional by Renee Pearce, Virginia Woods presented the Christmas Child Program of Samaritan’s Purse.  Shoe boxes may be filled for a boy or girl in the age bracket you choose.  You are asked to include $7 to help with postage and handling if you are able.  Boxes may be covered but not sealed.  All boxes must be turned in by Sunday, November 23.  They will be delivered to the area distribution center that afternoon.

The Christmas family selected this year consist of a Father, a seriously ill Mother and four children under 15.  Details of needs and sizes will be posted on the bulletin board downstairs.  This family is struggling as the doctor bills for the Mother are exceeding the income from the two jobs the Father works.  Let us never forget the Christmas gift God gave us as we reach out to help others.

MONTGOMERY CIRCLE

The Montgomery Circle will meet Tuesday, November 4th, in the home of Virginia Woods.  All women are invited to join in the time of Bible study and fellowship.

CHILDREN’S MISSION PROJECT

The Children’s Mission Project for 2008 is “Come With Me to the Well”.  The Children’s Home in Bhogpur, India, has 650+ children of all ages.  The home was started by a missionary couple to take care of children whose parents have leprosy.  One well now provides water for all of the needs of the school at this time.  This includes bathing, cooking and washing clothes, and it is not able to provide enough water.  A new well will cost $25,000.00 and will be an on going project.  Centralia has set a goal for this year of $575.00.   Can you help?

THURSDAY EVENING LADIES’ STUDY

The Thursday Evening Ladies’ Bible Study will meet on November 13th, only.  The fourth Thursday will be Thanksgiving and there will be no study.  Even if you have not attended the last couple of meetings, please come and join us as we look into God’s Word, specifically the book of James.  I would love to see you there!  We meet at the church at 7 PM.

FAMILY NEWS

Congratulations to Matt and Brandi Lipscomb upon the birth of their daughter, Hunter Morgan Roe Lipscomb, on October 6th

Christian sympathy is extended to the friends and family of Don Cappetta, who died October 28th in Gastonia, NC.

Sam Tarry will be beginning Chemo this week.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks to the ladies who spent the time to make the picture magnets of the missionaries we support: Jennifer Armstrong, Renee Pearce, Peggy Porter and Bennie Ann Taylor.  If you did not get one of these prayer reminder magnet frames, please pick one up from downstairs and keep that missionary in your special prayers.

JUST LIKE HOME

Centralia is very fortunate to have an agreement with Peggy Porter and Jennifer Armstrong to clean the church once a week.  They have done an outstanding job with a facility this big.  Their agreement is the same as it would be if you were fortunate enough to have a once a week maid service.  The catch is that your service would come to your home once a week but you would still have to make your own bed, hang up your clothes, put away things and wash your own dishes the rest of the week.  Neither Peggy nor Jennifer is paid for “continuous cleaning” and “just like home” we must each take the responsibility of picking up after ourselves at the church.  When you make a pot of coffee, be sure you empty the grinds and clean the pot AND throw your own cup away.  If you attend an “eating” event at the church (and we have a lot of them), please offer to help clean the kitchen.  The WIC clean up committee can’t do it all and there are some men out there who don’t get the privilege of signing up for this committee.  Let’s all be a little more diligent about keeping our space neat.  We do appreciate all of the extras that Peggy and Jennifer do but they can’t do it all.

A SIGN OF THE TIMES?

With gas prices high and food prices soaring, job losses and fear of job cut backs, the insecurity of the financial future, it seems everything needs money.  The church is no exception.  Both our general and our mission budgets are lacking funds.  All of this is frustrating BUT God has given us a promise in Philippians 4:19 to “supply all our needs...”.  The world doesn’t have this promise, the Christian does.  As Christians we also have obligations.  Read Malachi 3:10.  The first fruits of our labor belong to God.  We give our tithes and offerings to God and expect Him to help us with our other needs.
