Centralia Life
VALENTINE BANQUET
The men of Centralia will honor the ladies with a Valentine Banquet. The banquet will be held at the church on Saturday, February 11th. Watch the Sunday bulletin for the time.
Russell Gardner will be the chief chef and will be assisted by the men in the Men’s Sunday School Class. Any other men who would be willing to help will be greatly appreciated.
This will be a special fun time for everyone. A nursery will be provided. Sign up now so that the men may get a count of how much to prepare.
PANERA “PICKER-UPPERS” NEEDED
Time flies, and again you are being asked to volunteer to pick up bread from Panera on Friday nights. Slots for February are already filled, but there is no one for March. Remember you don’t have to take a whole month by yourself. You can commit to two or three weeks and someone else can take the remainder of the month. You have to be at Panera by 8:50 P.M., and the people there will help you gather and pack it up. Drop off the bread at the church and be home by 10:00.
Please sign up on the sign-up sheet on the table in the Fellowship Hall.
Thank you to those who have helped in the past. For those who haven’t, you are missing out on the wonderful aroma of a vehicle filled with fresh baked goods and the opportunity to have first pickings of the lot.
REMINDER
Please remember that our Korean Brethren are meeting in the Ladies’ classroom on Sunday. Please leave quietly when going through the back hallway.
WEDNESDAY 4'S
It seems that each month we are putting in the Wednesday 4's in the newsletter. Some of you just skip the article and move on to other things. You really should consider what you are missing.
Each week we have a fantastic meal of salad, entree, drink and desert cooked by some of the best cook’s in Virginia. All of this is available for only $4.00. You could not match this anywhere.
Following the meal there is a Bible Study at 6:30 P.M. and a prayer meeting at 7:00. Those who can sing may move on to the Chancel Choir practice at 7:30. While the adults are following this schedule the children have their own program. They will be with us for dinner, which usually includes some foods that children especially enjoy. At 6:00, the children’s music program will begin. They have their own choir practice and a music theory program, where they are currently learning to play the chimes. A children’s Bible Study will be held at 6:45 followed by craft activities. It is a real pleasure to see the number of children involved. Children attending this program do not pay for their meal.
Can you imagine a better way to spend an evening in fellowship, study and enjoying good food? Don’t deprive yourself of this opportunity. You may arrive for dinner any time between 5 and 6.

WIC
The Women in the Church met on Tuesday, January 24th. Guest speaker, Gail Farmer, gave an informative and entertaining talk about organ donation. Mary Haskins led the devotion, entitled, “Apples of Gold”, which reminded us that the words we use can be a help or hindrance as we strive to be a good Christian example to the rest of the world. Games were played, refreshments were served and door prizes awarded.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 28, at
6:30 P.M. Dr. John Clay from the Primary Health Group in Colonial Heights will be our guest and will speak to us about heart health. Please join us and bring a friend.
If you have a suggestion for the women’s meetings or activities at Centralia, please contact Jeanette Madden, Cindy Korb, Amber Byrd, or Mary Haskins.
NURSERY WORKER
Centralia now has a full time nursery worker. Katherine Bortone has been hired to cover the nursery on Sundays during Sunday School and Worship, Wednesday nights until 9:00 and during the Friday night Bible Study. Our church ladies will continue to serve as they have in the past. From the looks of things on Sunday night she loves children and gets along well with them.
CAR BREAK INS
You may want to be sure you lock your car when you are leaving it in the parking lot, particularly for night meetings. On Sunday, January 29th, several cars parked at the “old church” for their Sunday evening service were broken into. We do not know what was taken but it is a warning that in today’s times we need to take precautions when our vehicles are unattended.
Don’t forget a “can of food” and $1 for the Souper Bowl on February 5th!
MONTGOMERY CIRCLE TO RESUME
The Montgomery Circle has not been meeting lately due to the Chairman Peggy Porter’s surgery and other circumstances. They will resume their meetings at 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, March 6. If you would like to join with this group for Bible Study and fellowship they would welcome you. The study in Daniel will continue.
SPECIAL THANKS
A special thanks to three elders who have so graciously continued to assist even though they are not currently active. Eugene Friedline, Harold Taylor and Charles Woods were great active elders and are still “great”! Thank you for all you have done and continue to do in the service of the Lord.
